Stud Welding is

Everything, from the history of stud welding to the methods used!

Condenser Method

This method is commonly called CD Method (Capacitor Discharge Method) which charges 40,000~200,000 microfarad of big capacity condenser from relatively small AC power source, then discharge in a moment between stud and work panel. There are two big categories as Contact method and Gap method.

Contact method

In this method as shown in Chart – 8, at first insert the stud with projection called narbel on tip into chuck of the welding gun, then press and contact it onto the base plate.
Next push the switch on the gun, then electric charge in the condenser runs toward projection of stud. This projection melts and disappears, and then arc spreads, at the same time stud is pushed onto the base metal by repulsion of the spring inside the welding Gun, then instantly welding finishes.

Gap method

In this method as same as Contact method, stud with projection called narbel on tip is used.
In this method as shown in Chart – 9, stud inserted into chuck of the welding gun is set to proper distance from base metal in advance by solenoid coil inside welding gun. You push the switch on the welding gun, and then magnetic excitation is cut off, stud moves toward the base metal, and at the time stud contacts the base metal, electric charge in the condenser runs toward projection of stud. This projection melts and disappears, and then arc spreads, at the same time stud is pushed onto the base metal by repulsion of the spring inside the welding Gun, then instantly welding finishes.
